Granado Dies In Car Tree Wreck Near Balmorhea
Final rites planned for Joe H. Granado 22 of Las Cruces N M after a 3 15 a m crash on Hwy 290 near Balmorhea he veered struck a cotton wood tree at high speed and died at the scene. Armando Acosta Esparza 24 was treated for injuries after a homemade cycle crash on Couch Hill road 3 miles north of the city limits. Investigating officer David Brynes issued four tickets. Granado formerly played for Balmorhea High School and worked for Coca Cola Bottling in Las Cruces. He is survived by his wife a daughter and a son all of Las Cruces and several relatives. The family attended his sister s wedding in Balmorhea. Weather outlook partly cloudy warm through Tuesday with a risk of scattered thundershowers mainly east and south portions highs 85 to 100.

DWI Charge After Saragosa Rear-End Collision
A rear-end crash yesterday at 2 pm on Texas Hwy 17 north of FM 1215 led to the arrest of 19 year old Edwin Holland Eppenauer for driving while intoxicated. He drove a 1969 Mercury Cougar into a 1964 Chevrolet driven by Francisco Olivas, 28, of Balmorhea. Olivas faced a license charge, was treated and released from Memorial Hospital. Eppenauer received hospital treatment for cuts and abrasions and posted a $1,060 bond set by Justice of Peace J F Hightower.
