7000 Acre Feet Flow Into Red Bluff Lake
Heavy rains north of Pecos pushed more than 7000 acre feet into Red Bluff reservoir raising the level about a foot. turbines were shut to prevent overflow and later restarted. Water also flowed from Screwbean Creek while floods hit nearby areas, causing road and rail disruption and property damage in Saragosa and Colorado City.

Prominent Oil Man Is Killed in West Texas
F. Scarborough dies at 71 in a Kermit hospital from a gunshot wound after a Monday shooting at Scarborough Frying Pan Ranch near Kermit. His son Hollis Scarborough, 52, faces murder charges and is held on 25,000 bond after waiving an examining trial for assault with intent to murder. Survived by five daughters and a grandson.

Finley Rites Held for Pecos Ranchman Otis Finley
Otis Finley a Pecos ranchman died from burns after a brow torch explosion. Born November 27 1894 at Fort Davis he was 44. He is survived by parents wife Lillian and three children Mary Lea Otie Bud and Edwin Curtis plus four sisters. He joined First Presbyterian Church of Fort Davis at Bloys Camp Meeting. The obituary notes his Christian life and quiet acts of kindness amid trials.

Five-Year Conservation Plan Signed in Balmorhea Ranch
A five-year cooperative agreement between Mrs. J. L. Moore and W. E. Moore and the Soil Conservation Service Water Facilities Division covers 29,900 acres in the Toyah Creek watershed. Detailed surveys, soil and range mapping, and engineering plans finalize deferred and rotated grazing, Sudan pastures, and grain sorghum use on irrigated ranches. The plan divides the ranch into six pastures with earthen tanks, spreader dams, contour furrows and ridges to conserve water and improve grazing.

J A Hardy Dies in Pecos at 74
Julius A. Hardy longtime Pecos resident and former prominent real estate owner died Tuesday morning at his son Jess Hardy's home after a period of ill health. He came to Pecos in 1910 from Dallas where he was married to Nellie Langley. Funeral services were held at Pecos Funeral Home with Rev. John W. Byrd presiding and burial in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers included Chas FitzGerald, Jess Fletcher, John Wadley, Jack Gray, Sheriff Louis Robertson, and Holsey Glover.

Frank Jowell seriously burned in an explosion that killed Edwin Finley and injured Roy Kendall and John Wendt. Jowell's burns are minor but internal injuries caused complications. Kendall, a Barnsdall Oil Company dealer, has burns on hands and arms. Wendt has facial burns. Kendall and Wendt aided Finley and Jowell after the blast.
