Two Pecos Men In Critical Condition After Gas Torch Blast
Edwin Finley and Frank Jowell suffered severe burns Tuesday when a gas torch explosion on the John Wendt farm 17 miles south of Pecos caused clothes to ignite. Finley’s injuries were mainly on the back and legs with faint chances of survival. Jowell’s burns worsened but a transfusion showed some improvement. Jowell credited for saving Finley by stripping burning clothes from his body. The accident occurred just before noon as they prepared to start an engine. the blast came from excessive pressure on an air compressor.

Five Point Work Plan Adopted by Pecos Chamber
The Pecos chamber adopted a five point work plan with nine minor goals for the coming year. Main items include Fort Stockton highway, Pecos public park, Big Bend Park, Irving Springs State Park, and rural cooperation. Jackson Baby Dies in Fort Worth Hospital
Bessie Lee Jackson youngest child of Mr and Mrs Buck Jackson died in a Fort Worth hospital Tuesday afternoon from dysentery after a brief illness. The family had been visiting Fort Worth when the child fell ill. Funeral services were held in Fort Worth and burial followed. The Jackson home is near Fort Worth.

First Cavalry maneuvers run Balmorhea host six thousand troops
Brig. Gen. Kenyon A. Joyce announces that Balmorhea will host six thousand soldiers for bi annual maneuvers by the First Cavalry Division. Red Bluff opens $44,000 rural electrification project
The Red Bluff Water Power Control District began a $44,000 rural electrification job financed by district bonds and PWA funds. J. M. Callahan of El Paso won the contract and has an office in Barstow. About 15 to 20 workers start this weekend with a finish tentatively in late August, extending power from Red Bluff reservoir to Grandfalls and Imperial along the Pecos River corridor.

Cotton Acreage Totals Under Review in Reeves County
Reeves county farmers are being counted on to verify 1939 cotton acreage as Ted Johnston and staff review maps and calculations. Plans to plow under excess land will be offered to keep planting within allotments before bolls set, with penalties for overplanting and loss of subsidy payments. The penalty for unknowingly overplanting includes four cents per pound and loss of a three and six tenths cent subsidy plus soil conservation two cents and parity payments of one and six tenths cents.
