City officials issued May permits totaling about 90 600 with a new commercial office for McGowen law offices at Fifth and Cypress costing 47 000. The Associated Press reports warm weather and showers across Texas with most areas partly cloudy. Pecos reached 94 degrees, lows in the 60s. Temperatures to rise again into the 90s with scattered showers, from the Panhandle to Corpus Christi and Galveston. Early readings ranged from 73 in Galveston to 59 in Amarillo.
City council members meet in regular session at city hall at 7 30 a m Thursday with routine monthly reports. Downtown merchants contest proposed parking changes on Cedar Third Fourth and Second streets. Bids will be opened on two new pickups in this session.
In Reeves County runoff polls on Saturday Dale Toone leads Dutch over Dutchover by a narrow margin. Toone 465 to 450 overall with strong Pecos box showing 150 to 78, while Dutchover leads in Balmorhea and Saragosa boxes and absentee. Official canvass due Monday may seat Toone January 1.
The school board will hold its regular monthly meeting in the school business office on Thursday to review bids. The bids cover fencing for the football field and furniture for additions to buildings under the current construction program.
