468 Coal Miners Feared Dead in Rhodesian Disaster
A large underground explosion at Wankie Colliery 200 miles north of Bulawayo threatens 468 miners. First screwworm case reported in Reeves County
Reeves County reports its first screwworm case of the year at the O Groff ranch near the Pecos county line south of the Ft. Stockton Balmorhea highway. County agent Paul Tapp says sterilized fly releases are planned this week, as cases total about 3,500 in 100 Texas counties per Dr. M. E. Meadows Jr. The outbreak spreads across Brown Coke Grimes San Saba Young Wilbarger, with calls for sustained production of 160 million flies weekly and federal state funding to curb outbreaks north of the barrier zone. A joint Mexico program is sought to push the flies southward, with talks on converting ships to a sterile fly plant.

U S planes knock out over 100 supply boats

British troops arrest several wanted men in Belfast raid
British pa troopers chased a wanted IRA member into a Belfast house Monday night and arrested the fugitive and seven others. The captives included a battalion commander and two senior company officers of the Provisional wing. Mobs attacked soldiers after the raid, with a gun battle lasting an hour and sporadic fighting continuing through the night. No casualties were reported. In Portadown clashes between Protestant and Catholic groups left a 14-year-old Protestant wounded, while four policemen were injured and two gunmen hit in the Catholic sector. Pecosman Indicted for Rape By Reeves County Grand Jury
A Pecos man was indicted for rape on J L G Gomez and Jill S Cherry Sr., an employee of Santa Fe Railway, by Reeves County grand jury. District Attorney Roddy Harrison said he will stand trial later this year. The defendant is on bond set at $10,000 for the alleged rape of a 20 year old Pecos woman.
