Johnson, former First Lady and UT System Board of Regents member, will travel to Odessa Tuesday for official acceptance ceremonies for the first student admitted to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Trial Week Yields Murky Results in Reeves County

Daniel Lee Morgan received 96 days in jail and a $100 fine for driving while intoxicated. his license was suspended for a year. Jurors found Jesse Ephriam guilty of aggravated assault on a police officer, with sentencing pending. Justo R Rodriguez was sentenced to 45 days in jail and $100 fine for aggravated assault on an officer. Six pleas were entered. William J Rogers Jr. and Benito Salcido received shorter sentences and probation terms. The next jury week was slated for late September or early October.

UT makes final plans for Observatory housing
The UT System Board of Regents appointed a special committee to approve final McDonald Observatory housing plans before the next regular meeting on September 6. The panel includes Chairman John Peace, Frank C. Erwin Jr., E. D. Walker, Ralph S. Kristoferson, and James H. Colvin. Preliminary plans approved June 9 call for 18 housing units at Mount Locke to house scientific staff, featuring three and four bedroom homes with fire retardant exterior shingles. Project cost is estimated at 390,000.
