Paul Spaak dies at 73 a pioneer of European unity
Brussels AP Paul Henri Spaak longtime Belgian socialist leader and architect of European unity and NATO died early today at age 73 after vacationing in the Azores and falling ill. He helped found the United Nations and became the first president of its General Assembly in 1946. Spaak served as prime minister foreign minister and NATO secretary general, shaping European integration for decades. He survived a German prison camp in World War I and earned a rapid law degree after.

Pecos opens new municipal golf pro shop
The Pecos municipal golf course opened a new golf pro shop built by the city. Pro Bill Wilson notes the old dilapidated shop behind the country club, not city property, will remain. The 66 by 40 foot building includes lockers a lounge and equipment rooms. Most gear moved to the new shop. The course is closed Mondays.

Depot closes as Pecos area agency shifts plans
The Santa Fe depot on Willow Street closed Friday at 4 p m for the last time. The Railroad Commission of Texas ordered the building dismantled and Pecos designated a four month agency with prepaid freight tariffs. The West of the Pecos Museum seeks to buy furnishings or the depot dating to 1892. Carlsbad New Mexico agents will handle car orders and bills of lading. Freight billing and damage handling, rate information, and demurrage records shift to the Carlsbad office and Central Account Bureau in Amarillo.

Work Begins on Pecos City Directory Update
Work will start this week on compiling information for a revised Pecos city directory led by J. L. Bunch of Johnson Publishing Company. John Hargrave of Crane assists. an eight to ten member Pecos team of women will gather data. Johnson Publishing, based in Loveland Colorado, publishes directories in Texas cities and promises delivery by March 1973.

Businessman's seminar sparks broad Pecos interest
