Oasis and Lone Star Gas Begin Pipelines Across Texas
Oasis Pipe Line Company and Lone Star Company start multi million dollar pipelines linking West Texas and the Houston area and Pecos to Dallas Fort Worth. Oasis line runs 333 miles from Pecos County to New Braunfels with $150 million cost and first phase Fort Stockton to Sheffield then to Sonora and on to New Braunfels. The line tied to a 146 mile section Braunfels to Houston completed in 1970 with initial capacity over one billion cubic feet daily. Lone Star pipeline spans Pecos to Dallas Fort Worth, 380 miles, cost about $80 million, expected complete February 1973. 1,295 carloads of pipe being unloaded in Odessa Midland Snyder. Retired Persons Group Eyes Pecos AARP Chapter
A Pecos group plans to form an American Association of Retired Persons chapter with a Friday 2:30 p.m. meeting at the community center banquet room. Sponsor duo Buddy Withers and Paul Dowling say membership is open to anyone over 55, with a $2 annual fee. The group aims to offer legislative influence, insurance, discounts on medicines and travel, and other member benefits. Dowling notes AARP is nationwide with about four million members and that most towns of Pecos size have local chapters. The meeting will be a low-key introduction not tied to the recent Senior Citizens’ Survey.

Five Pecos Students Named to West Texas Honor Band
Five Pecos Junior High School band members were named to the junior honor band at West Texas State University's annual camp in Canyon. The students, Kim Allen, April Armstrong, Laura Boswell, Monya Hooker, and Randy Moss, left Pecos July 15 for a two week camp directed by the Monahans band director, and will return after a final concert Friday at 6 30 p.m. The event marks a strong showing for Pecos schools with both junior high and high school bands participating.

Martin, formerly a Huckab Chevrolet service advisor in Midland, started June 5 after a long career beginning in 1963 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and later rising to management in 1969.
