The Wink Times-Herald editor notes Pecos gas users formed a 250 strong group to pursue rate relief via organized inquiry and dialogue with the gas company. He urges calm, evidence based negotiations and warns against threats. Sparks attends the Rotary luncheon while pondering the Pecos situation.
The Pecos Utility Users Association special committee will present its findings Friday night after two weeks of inquiry into local rates. A mass meeting at 7 30 in the district courtroom will hear the report from Dr J L Kincannon and other company reps. Rumors suggest a downward revision by Texas Louisiana Power Co and possible gas plans from Southern Union. The telephone company may adopt a two party rate of 225 for residence and 400 for business, with a four party rate being considered. Water rate actions are unclear.
Rumor says the Texas Louisiana Power Company plans a downward revision of power and light rates in Pecos. Details are scarce and the company may have discussed the matter with Mayor Toliver and the city council. Chamber of Commerce members were briefed by Martin Michel, a Texas Louisiana representative, at a luncheon gathering attended by about 80 people at the Christian church.
Pecos officials announced that about $2500 in city taxes accrued from 1905 to 1923 are uncollectable after a state law and a constitutional amendment. The council set April 4 for alderman elections and named election judge C K McKnight with R W Thompson as assistant.
Pecos boys beat Wink 17 12 with Lewell Tennant strong at center and Maury second high scorer. Pecos girls defeated Wink 25 0 in a solid win as Captain Hortense Gray and Lucille Stephens starred. Both Pecos teams later won Wednesday games at Toyah. county title context noted.
Miss Mary Lee Ning of El Paso Texas was rescued from an attempted attack by a man described as a negro when her dog intervened during a walk. The incident occurred during a trade trip event listed for next Tuesday.
UE Monahans News published a poem titled Galloping Meter. Jn P. Davis notices a fast meter, finds appliances off, and sees the meter still running. He calls the power company who replaces it with a normal meter, noting the prior meter was a freak in the meter world.
A local physician said January collections were better than any month in the past two years despite tax and license periods and holiday spending. He called it a healthy sign as many people still owe doctors.
A Houston buyer, A. M. Cardin, acquires an interest in the Joe A. Worsham ranch near Pecos, known as the Ritz ranch. Cardin plans to stock the 15 section estate with cattle and move there. Located about 10 miles southeast of Pecos along the river, the deal's price was not disclosed.
ThreCos will stage a Quilt Show on Saturday March 3 inviting local ladies to display handiwork. Quilts entered are to be turned in at the Pecos Mercantile Company with prizes awarded in several classes. Judges to be announced.
The Richard Briscoe Post No. 91 seeks to restore its strength to 160 with sixty paid members and six new applications this week. About 150 eligible ex service men in the area are urged to join, with A. R. Copen Lace Hart R. F. Coffey H. A. Stuart James F. Green and J. A. Holdman among new applicants. Dan Mount chairs the committee with W. V. Williams Carl Eddings Clyde Simmons Dewey Richburg and H. M. Thompson.
Residents of Buena Vista Grandfalls and Silliman communities on the lower Pecos Valley invited to a noon barbecue at the damsite near Angeles hosted by Red Bluff engineer Vernon L Sullivan. Pecos residents urged to visit Sunday afternoon to inspect the proposed dam location.
W. E. Brack this week unloaded several new pieces including four Leonard electric refrigerators. Local retailer showcases new home furnishings and appliances for shoppers.
Rev. J. A. Kidd, evangelist for the Peros Valley Baptist Association, will conduct a two week revival in Jal New Mexico starting Sunday. A vacant store room has been converted into a church with chairs and lighting for the services.
James Witt of Barstow earned first alternate on a West Point appointment made by Congressman-at-large Joseph Weldon Bailey Jr. The principal, Frank Bomar of El Paso, did not qualify or attend. Witt now has the first chance at the academy, a notable recognition for this part of the state.
About 25 members of the Monahans Christian church met with the Pecos Christian church Sunday morning. Following the sermon by Rev Ramage both congregations had a picnic lunch on the pastorate lawn. Rev Ramage has been conducting a revival at Monahans.
Senator Regan introduced S. B. 198 to legalize the enlarged Red Bluff district, allow a power plant, and levy taxes to repay an RFC loan. The measure, moving through the Senate Mining Irrigation and Drainage Committee, would create master water districts and relocate home areas to water control districts, aiding a future RFC loan reapplication.
Contractors from Alabama Minnesota New York California and many other states will visit Pecos next week to inspect the Red Bluff dam site with engineer Ver non T Sullivan. Sealed bids will be opened by Sullivan at the Red Bluff office in Hotel Brandon next Saturday at 10 am. Local master mechanic B C Marchbank and several other visitors from Dallas Omaha Marshall and Los Angeles were already in town.
A representative of the United States Collector of Internal Revenue will be at the courthouse February 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide free guidance on income tax return filing. Tax returns are due by March 15.
Van Havis suffered a fractured foot while at work on the Armstrong road surfacing crew on the Carlsbad highway. One bone in the foot was crushed, physicians reported.
Several hundred clothing items furnished by the American Red Cross arrive at the Associated Charities in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. Those in actual want may apply to receive garments, including shirts, pants, bloomers, socks, and other wear, all made from Farm Board cotton by mills at cost. Allocation secured by Associated Charities Chamber of Commerce and local A F C Committee from the Red Cross.
Mrs. J. B. Woolfolk announces the Pretty Up contest for the City Federation of Women's clubs with rules to be released soon. She urges wide participation for community good and notes Pecos will be judged in the West Texas Chamber of Commerce beautification contest alongside other West Texas entries.
LCOS business men will extend friendship to Ward County citizens with a goodwill trip next Tuesday under Pecos Chamber of Commerce auspices. The tour will visit Barstow Pyote Monahans Wickett Grandfalls and Royalty, ending in Grandfalls to foster trade relations.
A trade event gathers at the Chamber of Commerce building at 16 a.m. on Tuesday. Decorate cars with banners advertising Pecos or your business. rides available for those without cars. Everyone invited to join the trip, regardless of Chamber membership.

Bozeman Jerry Foster and Marvin Cowen as clerks. Precinct Two Dee Davis presiding Curtis McElroy Reeves Burchard and B. F. Powell as clerks. Precinct Three John Coffee chairman J. J. Bayles assistant Ella G. White and Edgar George as clerks. Precinct Four Wynn Hamilton chairman George Davis assistant.
