Cantaloupe Car Shipments Lead By Tri-State in 1939 Season
Cantalope carload shipments for the 1939 season reach 31 this week led by Tri-State Produce Company packed at the depot and picked from Country Club farms with 15 cars shipped. M. L. Todd in second with 14 cars, Harald Wendt with two. Daily express and freight shipments run about 250 cars, with over 350 crates sent by express on Wednesday night for the season high.

Engineers Set Up Offices for Pecos River Study
Preparation of office space for a laboratory in the water quality division of the U S Engineers was under way in Pecos this week as a step in the Pecos River Joint investigation. W W Hastings leads the water quality office and A N Sayre directs the ground water study with H E Prichett C E Ellsworth and C S Breeding in charge of surface work. They expect to remain in Pecos for at least a year and a half, with the investigation slated to officially close June 1, 1941.

Over half of Reeves county farm applications for subsidy payments had been sent this week to the State AAA office in College Station. Applications continue to be signed daily in County Agent Ted Johnston's office. Vacant Faculty Posts Ahead of Pe Cos School Opening
Three positions remain open in Pe cos school as the district readies for opening in ten days. The board met to review applications after resignations by Miss Millie Shafer and Miss Jane Guinn and the death of Mrs. Lillie W. Cole. A principals’ meeting is set for Sept two at the high school and a general faculty meeting follows. Registration begins Tuesday with senior high advance registrations, then a staggered schedule for sophomores juniors and seniors.

Dickie Kirkpatrick Recovers From Eye Injury
Five year old Dickie Kirkpatrick of Pecos was treated by eye specialist Dr. R A Roberts after suffering a half inch gash in the eye from an accidental cut with a knife. Stitches were taken and he regained his sight by Thursday afternoon.

Modernization of Pecos District Claims Old Goodloe Building
The Oak Street Peter Goodloe building, built circa 1893 by A. P. Thomas, is being remodeled under J. M. Brooks of Gilmer. It will house the Style Shop, Paris Fashion Shoe Shop, Lillie Poe Millinery, and H. F. Anthony offices, after formerly holding Sam Winkler, Style Shop, and other Pecos businesses. The lot was sold in 1893 to Pecos Valley State Bank per T. H. Beauchamp.

Hobbs Man Killed In Highway Crash Near Wickett
L. B. Guthrie of Hobbs was killed instantly when his coupe collided with a Galbraith Steel & Supply Co. truck driven by Herman Kirby two miles west of Wickett. Hope Roberts, riding with Guthrie, was slightly injured and released after treatment. Kirby sustained a knee injury. Guthrie worked with an oil well engineering firm.
