Conference tests bore participants' patience
Kenneth J. Rabb en reports on the Educational Testing Service annual conference at the New York Hilton. Nearly 700 attendees endured long scholarly papers as leaders in educational measurement delivered jargon filled talks, sparking limited discussion and unease about research relevance and future policy. A. N. Hieronymous and ETS figures challenged terminology, while Dwight W. Allen urged pragmatic reform and hinted at granting diplomas for basic job readiness.

Immature minds seek fantasy over reality warns writer
Unchecked fantasy leads to trouble as Rev. Lee Truman argues that many people seeking advice display emotional immaturity by treating imagined fears as facts. He cites cases of a rabbit feeder fearing snakes, a man convinced a mouse lives in his stomach, and a patient misled by sleight of hand, urging flexibility, faith, and ongoing counseling. He invites readers to request a maturity checklist.
