City council joins plan to mark personal property
City Councilmen voted to join county and chamber efforts to mark personal property of private citizens to cut petty theft. They also kept the policy banning private gasoline tanks at the municipal airport, not affecting agricultural spray planes. Neighbors wake family as house fire hits home
Mrs. Sid Williams at 1500 Morris Street reports neighbors Eldon and Ollie Vines woke her and the children when smoke appeared Wednesday morning. A radio in her son's room shorted after lightning knocked out power, starting the fire that destroyed a mattress and furnishings while her husband, a Community Public Service Co lineman, helped restore electricity.

Deadly Brazilian bees may reach U S within years
AP Farm Writer Don Kendall reports that aggressive Brazilian honey bees are expanding toward the United States from Brazil at about 200 miles per year. A National Research Council study funded by the Agriculture Department warns there is no natural barrier, and bees could arrive in North America in four to six years. The report notes hundreds of stings have killed animals and people, urging measures to keep them out.
