New Orleans AP reports that early next year the Red River navigation project could begin the first section in Louisiana. Congress authorized about 900 million for the overall effort but has not funded construction. a 1.2 million appropriation awaits final approval. Public hearings, environmental cautions, and local support frame the effort to make the river navigable to Shreveport and beyond.
In Saigon reports three South Vietnamese regiments moved to stem a North Vietnamese push from Que Son Valley toward Da Nang. US air crews said 130mm guns and tanks were spotted near the fighting, with B52 bombers targeting the area. The clash marks the heaviest NVA action west of Da Nang in months as refugees flood toward the coast and valley sites change hands.

Balmorhea and surrounding ranch country saw good rains this past week with up to five inches. Madera creek runs clear for the first time in years, feeding the Balmorhea reservoir via intake canals. Limpia creek also runs clear from Ft. Davis, tanks are full, grass is good, and roads were washed out with no complaints.
