Long distance rate changes show shift to more operator time
The proposal increases charges for operator assisted calls while lowering some station-to-station rates. A 350 mile daytime station-to-station call would drop from $1.10 to 93 cents if dialed, or $1.25 with operator help, and 66 cents after 5 PM. Person-to-person would rise to $2.30 from $1.90, as Southwestern Bell cites rising Texas wages as justification.
