Southwestern Bell Announces Texas Long Distance Rate Changes
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company announces adjustments to Texas long distance rates effective September 1. Direct Distance Dialing rates decrease while operator assisted calls increase. Lower DDD rates apply to areas not yet having DDD when calls use area code and number with no extra assistance. Lad has finger severed in mower accident
Billy Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Allen, lost his left index finger when his grass catcher was cleared and the mower blade engaged. He was rushed to Memorial Hospital where the finger was sewn back on and he planned to report for football practice Monday as a city water department employee and sophomore.

Trio Held on Narcotics Charge After Highway Stop
Three Gulfport youths Richard L. Stanford 18 Gregory R. Jones 17 were arrested Monday after a weaving vehicle was spotted by Highway Patrolman David Brynes and deputies John Lewis and Kenneth Stroud. They face possession charges with $5,000 bonds set by Justice J. F. Hightower. a 16-year-old juvenile was also taken into custody.
