About 150 newspaper and allied trades members gather in Pecos for the 13th annual West Texas Press Association convention. Activities include a luncheon, dancing, songs, bridge for ladies, swimming party, and a convention dance. After a breakfast, delegates tour Carlsbad Caverns and Red Bluff power plant, then a chuck wagon feed at Balmorhea and visits to Fort Davis Alpine Marfa and Big Bend CCC camp.

Wildcat Well in Loving County Delivers 500 to 1000 Barrels
Commercial production between 500 and 1000 barrels was obtained this week in the Fred Heir No. 1 test in Loving county. The well in section 82, block 1, SW corner of the SW quarter, reached total depth 4244 feet after a Delaware interval at 4205 feet. Eight hundred barrels of storage were filled awaiting pipeline connection from Pasotex Co.

Deadline Set On AAA Assignments
County Agent Ted Johnston warned that assignments on payments for AAA participation would not be accepted after October 31 by the State office. Farmers and ranchers who plan to assign 1939 payments to backers or contractors must do so before deadline, with ranchers notably affected to ease funds for range work.

City Parks Plan Advances With 12 Acre Land Buy

Sarge Linton Dies At Balmorhea Home
C M Sarge Linton elderly Balmorhea resident died at his home Wednesday night. He had not been ill and his death shocked the family. Injuries from the Spanish American War left him in poor health for years. He had lived in Balmorhea for about 25 years. His wife and two daughters survive.

Carload shipments increasing as melon growers ship weekly totals
Fourteen carloads of Pe a and Co cantaloupes were shipped to market Thursday with another car readied. Major producers Tri-State Co Harold Wendt and M L Todd continue daily express and freight shipments joined this week by J W Brooks. Todd ships about 200 crates daily and predicts a car a day next week.

School Valuations Set by Pecos ISD Board
The Pecos Independent School District board of equalization met to set valuations for the coming year. Taxpayers received notices of increases or cuts and a second protest hearing is set for next Wednesday, August 16 at the school. Hundred Miles Of Conjuring Finished On Caldwell Ranch

Patrol cuts hit Texas Highway Patrol Western District
Six men will be dropped from the Texas Highway Patrol Western District on Sept. 1 as Gov. O Daniel trims the safety department budget.
