Holiday traffic leads to several DUI arrests in Payson
Thousands visited Payson during Labor Day weekend with eight reported overdue, all later accounted for. Three DUI arrests were made by Department of Public Safety officers including Ron Rankin of Phoenix and Bill Kemmish of Mesa. Rankin faces a Sept. 7 court appearance. Kemmish pleaded guilty and paid a 122 dollar fine.

The Payson Pine Fair in Pine adds two first time events alongside agricultural displays. The Pine Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a fund raising barbecue drawing 1500+ attendees and the Mogollon Marathon nine mile race with 250 entries. Race starts 10 a.m. Saturday east of Camp Geronimo turn off, finishes at Pine Elementary. Awards include grand trophies, category prizes, medals, T shirts and barbecue tickets.

Jamboree Draws 500 in Payson Labor Day Festivities
More than 500 attended the C B Jamboree in Payson over Labor Day weekend organized by the Rim Country Radio Club. Prizes were awarded by drawing with the top prize a 40 channel citizen's band radio won by Becky Kulman. Club president Dan Raymond noted $100 was donated to little Jackie Williams and more funds will be raised at the next meeting.

Mile of Dimes drive exceeds goal for Payson Hospital
Payson Hospital Auxiliary raised funds over the four day Labor Day weekend led by President Wyvonia Balstad. Proceeds fund a new hospital room with additional project potential. The group, active since 1965, supports equipment purchases, a health-related scholarship, arts festival co-sponsorships, rummage sales, a hospital gift shop, and a planned thrift shop. Twenty one members plus one non member volunteer assisted.
