Glacier Glide adds snowmaking for weekend tobogganing

Glacier Glide in Tempe plans seven day operations with five lighted slopes from Nov 25 to Mar 13. New snowmaking equipment, a 13 000 gallon reservoir, and cold temps allow up to a foot of snow in 15 hours, enabling weekly replenishment and year round community use.

Harold Grabow dies active in Payson community

Harold Grabow, 71, longtime Payson resident and co founder of the Payson Senior Citizens Club, died after a lengthy illness. Graveside rites are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Payson Pioneer Cemetery. viewing Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Payson Funeral Home. He designed the orange and blue senior citizens flag used statewide and had a varied career including truck driving and real estate sales before becoming a bus driver for Mogollon Stage. He served in the Army National Guard and moved to Arizona in 1950s, with one survivor, his stepson Dr David Gilbert.

Master Plan faces zoning challenge from Realtors

Realtors and Payson Ranchos landowners urged the Planning and Zoning Commission to reclassify four Payson Ranchos lots from residential to commercial or to grant a conditional use permit. Jim Fetters argued the deed restrictions favored commercial use and cross highway shopping was unnecessary. The commission approved a C2 zoning motion despite dissent, while review of the Alpine Heights subdivision proceeded with questions on timing and changes.

Cable TV rate hike eyed by Payson council

Douglas Cable TV seeks an increase from 7.50 to 9.50 per month and installation fees from 10.10 to 15. Public hearing not set. Secretary treasurer Monte Keltner cites ongoing losses since 1973 and system rebuilds. Company plans system upgrades and satellite delivery to expand service to Payson.
