Payson Bicentennial events to appear in national calendar
ARBA plans master calendars listing Bicentennial events for tourists and media nationwide beginning in late June. Payson activities selected include the Country Gospel Festival May 17–18, Old-time Country Music Festival June 14–15, and Arizona Old-time Fiddlers Contest with a fall festival. Local sponsors are Payson Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.

A Payson disaster simulation over a weekend staged hospital power loss, a Payson airport crash injuring five, a Payson woman delivering a baby, a country club explosion injuring two, and severe snow. Payson Woman Honored for 25 Years of Weather Service
Anna Mae Deming of Payson received a commemorative pin and a commendation letter from the National Weather Service for 25 years of faithful service. Meteorologist Robert S. Ingram praised her data contributions aiding engineers and agriculture. she operates a Payson climatology substation since 1948 and makes seven daily observations for Sky Harbor Airport.

Payson High honors athletes at booster banquet
Payson High School athletes were celebrated by the Payson Longhorn Booster Club at a Monday banquet. Cliff Pagan served as master of ceremonies, with over 180 attendees at four dollars per plate. Letters and trophies were awarded to cheerleaders, pompon, basketball and wrestling squad members, and community supporters were thanked.

Payson Student Wins Gila County Spelling Bee
Bonnie Thomas seventh grader daughter of Ellis and Jeri Thomas of Payson won first place at Globe in the Gila County Spelling Bee. She will represent Gila County at the State Spelling Bee April 5 in Scottsdale, facing competitors from seven districts and Maricopa and Pinal counties.
