Rumsey Park hosts a motocross event on July 3 starting at 4 p.m. with no admission. Entries due by 3 p.m. and a $2.50 entry fee applies. Special red white and blue trophies will be awarded.
The July 4 celebration at the Gisela Store includes a barbecue on July 3 starting at 3 p.m. for 2 per plate, fireworks at 8 p.m. across the road with no admission, and a 9 p.m. dance. On July 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Elks members and families may enjoy games and a barbecue lunch with 2 adult and 0.50 child prices, nickel beer for members, and a closed Club grounds on North Beeline Highway.
The Payson Humane Society presents the fourth annual Street Dance from 4 p.m. to Hamman Lumber Co on Beeline Highway. Festivities include games, food, and soft drinks, with entertainment starting at 6 30 p.m. by Pat Watson and family. Jodi Sixkiller Westwinds provide dancing music, prize drawings occur all evening, and at 8 p.m. the Zane Grey Twirlers perform a square dance demonstration led by Alex Nagey. Proceeds fund a local shelter building program.
Gila County will not conduct an inquiry into the mislaid funds from seven school districts after Treasurer William Cunningham admitted withholding $475,997.17 from 1975 to 1977, saying he disagreed with the law. Districts seek restitution, potentially raising property taxes by at least seven cents per $100 valuation to repay the money.
Payson Town Council debated restricting door to door sellers and street vendors to protect local businesses. Some favored higher licenses or deposits for out of town vendors, while others warned the Green River Ordinance may hurt residents. Council will study options and pursue an equitable solution.
