Payson hosts the fourth annual Old-time Country Music Festival at the rodeo grounds as part of a summer series by the Payson Chamber of Commerce. Gates open 9 a.m. Saturday with events from 10 a.m. and Sunday’s fiddling segment starts at noon. prize money exceeds 1200 dollars across seven categories. Scout Injured in 60 Foot Mogollon Rim Fall Near Camp Geronimo
A 14 year old Scout Greg Zackrowski of Phoenix fell about 60 feet while hiking with six scouts near Camp Geronimo on the Mogollon Rim. He sustained minor head injuries and abrasions and was flown to a Phoenix hospital. DPS helicopters and Payson Fire Department rescued him and the others after darkness trapped the group on the cliff. They spent the night in a cave and used rope rappels to descend then walked 1.5 miles to Camp Geronimo. All seven suffered dehydration and hunger but were in good condition.
