Payson considers ordinance to restrict peddlers

Payson town may adopt a Chandler style ordinance requiring peddlers to file a detailed application with photo fingerprints two local references and a $10 license fee. Applicants must post a $500 surety bond and endure a two week waiting period for town investigation.

Payson Pioneer Howard H. Childers 73 Dies

Howard Hershel Childers 73 longtime Payson figure died Saturday in Payson Hospital after a 65 year life in the community. A sheriff deputy for 26 years he also served as Justice of the Peace and constable since 1974. He co founded the Tonto Rim Riders and was an Elks life member. survived by wife Rose son Edward and two grandchildren.

Forest Service lifts access ban on Tonto Forest lands

The Forest Service lifted its June 19 closure order at 8 a.m. Tuesday as storms dropped rainfall across Arizona over the Fourth of July weekend. The Tonto National Forest is open to the public but smoking and campfire restrictions remain in effect. Payson limits undeveloped areas and is not issuing burning permits, according to Fire Chief Chuck Jacobs.
