Census data released Monday estimates Payson population at 2890 in 1975 with 535 school age youths. If counts align with school records, total could reach about 3140 and possibly 3400 with uncounted parents. DES predicts 3700 by 1980 and 5200 by 1990 as growth continues.

Town Encourages Voter Registration Before April Primary
Registrar Doris Phillips volunteers to register residents at home as 780 of about 2,250 eligible voters have signed up by Tuesday. Town hall hours are weekdays 1 p.m. to 4 30 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon. A rush is expected near the April 6 primary with the last registration date March 26.

Donkey Basketball Game Stuns Payson Freshmen
The Payson High Freshmen were defeated 16 to 14 in sudden death overtime by the Longhorn Booster Club in Longhorn gym. Arlene Davis scored six points on Hercules the donkey, Doris Bobier forced overtime with a musty shot, and Bobier then stuffed the ball after standing on the donkey’s back.
