Town council to appoint new member from pool of three
Richard Robertson will oversee filling the single vacant council seat after Jack Menschein resigned on November 17. Candidate pool includes Albert Hull Mac McCreary and Robert Belk with Vertielee Floyd declining. Vice Mayor Dave Marko says no formal process and the decision will wait until Monday meeting. Belk narrowly lost May election to D J Smock by four votes.

Cowboys author Slim Ellison will be in Payson on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 30 p.m. meeting the public, signing copies of Cowboys Under the Mogollon Rim and Back Trackin. The Payson Roundup and Tonto Books will sell his books, and Slim Ellison Day will be proclaimed by the town.

Payson approves contract for substitute to become permanent teacher
Jim Graham Fred Steidham, a sixth grade substitute at Julia Randall Elementary, will be offered a permanent contract after the Payson School Board lifted a court stipulation that blocked new hires. The change follows a 1975 funding shift and a lawsuit by Maureen Malinski. final action in the case remains pending. Steidham, a Grand Canyon College graduate, also serves as junior high coach and welcomed the contract.
