Winter Storm Hits Payson Areas During Thanksgiving Weekend
Strong winds on Thanksgiving Day cut power to Payson and nearby towns. A 345000 volt line near Prescott was damaged by gusts, causing outages across Northern Arizona. Snow deeper in Pine and Christopher Creek, with Payson recording up to ten inches over two days, left roads snow packed and impassable at times.

13 Year Old Aunt Rescues Niece With Mouth to Mouth
A 13 year old girl, Bess Thiele, saved her 17 month old niece Becky Lowery by performing mouth to mouth resuscitation after the child stopped breathing at her grandparents home. Payson Ambulance technician Vera Kemper assisted, and Becky resumed breathing. The baby was treated at Payson Hospital and released the next day. Thiele learned first aid in school and is a candystriper at Payson Hospital.
