Payson Rodeo Parade Promised as Best Yet in 90th Year
The Payson Rodeo marks its 90th year with a grand parade on August 17 led by parade marshal Bob Capps. Western riders headline a lineup including Lake Air Force band and officers from Williams and El Zaribah Shrines, plus Miss Gila County and local dignitaries. The parade starts at 10 a.m. with the rodeo at 8 p.m. weekend performances follow August 16 17 and 18. Family booths and food are planned by local clubs and sponsors. Pop Warner will serve breakfast Saturday.

Ten People Injured In Payson Area Auto Accidents
Eight injuries were reported in four traffic incidents around Payson last week. William W. Foster of Payson was charged with driving while intoxicated after a collision with A. C. Smith. both Smiths were hospitalized. Foster posted a 165 bond and faced a second DWI charge in a month. Other incidents included a one car crash on Highway 260 injuring RE Wilson from Michigan, an early morning crash on Highway 87 injuring B. A. Myers, a Second Mesa family sustain minor injuries after the driver fell asleep on Highway 87, and a Payson man and son injured near Mesa del Caballo. Dick Jones and his 6 year old son, with truck driver Dean Randall, suffered multiple injuries. Randall’s dump truck is from Payson Concrete and Materials.

Gila County budget up 19.5 percent for 1974-75
Gila County supervisors tentatively adopt a 1974-75 budget about 19.5 percent higher than last year. Expenditures are estimated at 10,386,990.10 with the largest item 2,649,800 for Gila General Hospital. Revenue from all sources except property tax is 6,353,092. property tax levy is 4,033,899.18. A public hearing is set for 4.30 p.m. Monday in the board of supervisors office.

Rainy Start to August as Forest Fires Emerge
August arrives with 1.71 inches of rain in Payson in six days and eight lightning fires on Tonto National Forest. Fire control officer Dave Bacon says fires were beneficial and may burn naturally, with little watershed damage and no serious danger before hunting season.
