Fire injures woman. neighbor rescues Payson resident
Mrs Lorraine Burns of Payson sought treatment at Payson Hospital for shock and smoke inhalation after dozing in a chair which she reportedly ignited with a cigarette. Neighbor Stan Popiela pulled her from the blaze as firemen treated her on scene and transported her for further care. The chair burned and smoke damage totaled about 500 dollars.

Four injured in separate traffic accidents this week
The Department of Public Safety reports four people injured in two crashes. In Phoenix, Charles Ortega suffered a broken back after being thrown from a car whose driver JR Wilson fell asleep and struck JG Almond of Tempe. Ortega was hospitalized. A second crash 18 miles east on Highway 260 involved three minor injuries after a driver fell asleep, ran off the road, and hit a tree near Payson.

Payson Council Objects to County Zoning Hearings
The Payson Town Council unanimously protested a county planning and zoning hearing set for April 24 in Pine over three zoning applications. Two involve Payson properties including a request by O Malley Corporation to rezone land east of the golf course for apartments and a mobile home park proposal west of St Philips Road. The council urged consultation before rezoning and voted to send a protest letter asking the county to withhold action. A speed-citation case and a Rancho subdivision petition to leave the town were also reported.

Firearms Safety Course Starts Monday At Payson Elks
The second 1974 Firearms Safety Course begins Monday at 7 p.m. at Payson Elks Lodge with two films and student registration. Fees are 1.50 per student or 3 per family. Open to all ages, but 10 or older needed to certify for big game tags. Classes are sponsored by Payson Elks Lodge, administered by the Arizona Game and Fish Department and sanctioned by the NRA.
