Robbers Loot OGRA Sack Aboard Mail Train

A mail sack near the city was cut open and letters damaged after robbers rifled it and threw it from a train. The bag drifted into water and was found north of the city with contents soaked. no suspect identified as investigators work to recover the mail and clues.

Commercial Club Reviews Progress and Plans

The Commercial Club met for an evening session with strong attendance. Officers reported the organization in good shape, committees discussed sales day plans to be funded by local business leaders, hitching rack installation was upcoming, and public affairs matters were encouraging. The group adjourned to meet again on the second Monday in April.

White Plague Claims Another Young Life

Mrs. Mia Sylvia Watkins wife of Mebane L Watkins a lineman for the Tiaho Oregon Light and Power Company died after a long brave fight with the disease. The Watkins moved from Alton Illinois to Payette a year ago hoping climate would aid her health. Despite good care she died Wednesday morning with the funeral held Thursday and interment in Riverside cemetery. The family will return to Alton Illinois for permanent burial once rail lines clear.

Payette Chapter Members Visit Ontario For Degree Work

Twenty members of Payette Char for No. ER A.M. attended an Ontario meeting last Friday to confer degree work. After the exemplification, visitors enjoyed a fine banquet with fellowship and ample food, ending a most pleasant evening.

Christian Church Notes Announces Regular Services

Railroad for Payette would bring Gilmore & Pittsburg line

Surveyors for the Gilmore & Pittsburg railroad arrive in Boise, plan a route from the upper Boise river to Middleton then into the Payette Valley. Officials expect construction to start June 1, with the line entering Boise near Barberton and following to Middleton and Payette.

Payette Land Company Formed By Donovan and Stouter

D. P. Donovan and J. B. Stouter, two prominent Payette Valley businessmen, have formed the Payette Land Company to open a real estate office in Payette. The firm will operate from the Creighton building on Boine Street, with offices ready April 1, aiming to attract eastern homeseekers, especially from Nebraska and Iowa, and capitalize on their extensive land holdings to foster local growth.

Auction Sale Committee Forms For Six Month Run

A new nine member committee is appointed to run monthly market sales for six months. Homer Swanson will lead the next sale on April 6, with a policy of selling unrecited articles free of charge. Horses cattle and other stock will use a card system with small commissions. Merchants back the effort and funds are raised for monthly events benefiting the railroad and regional development.

Pastor G. Haley of the Methodist church has been invited by the County at Weiser to address the Knights on Easter Sunday evening. The Weiser Knights, Payette members and their ladies will join for supper at the hotel following the sermon. Haley, recently made a Knight, receives a notable honor in addressing the fraternity.
