Outlook for Payette Valley agriculture looks very bright

Farmers and orchardists in the Payette Valley report a highly encouraging outlook for spring and fruit crops. Orchardists are preparing cisterns and heaters to combat Jack Frost, while sheepmen gear up for the bike by the fifteenth. Heavy snow in the hills promises good range forage, and overall sentiment sees a record fruit year despite Caldwell flood damage and undermined sidewalks in the nearby city.

Sunday School Convention at Fruitland M E Church

The Sunday School Convention meets Friday March 18 at 10 a m in Fruitland M E Church. A praise service opens the program with topics on grading Sunday School, mission work, reports, and committees. Stormy Atlantic Crossing Returns Home

The Asnwerth family survived a four month stay in Bughmd and a very stormy voyage across the old Atlantic. The ship struggled to head into waves for days and the voyage included three sea rescues. Mrs McDermott and an assistant titled Mr Brewster and Mr Pugh also returned, likely to settle in the area.

A wave of settlers and workers arrives in Payette and demand for rental housing rises daily. With few vacant homes available, locals foresee a lively spring housing market as newcomers seek dwellings and merchants worry about space.

HGH Water Stops Sewer Construction On Payette River

High Payette River halted sewer district work last Thursday. The contractor had dug the outlet ditch to the railroad track and laid about two hundred feet of pipe before floodwaters forced a shutdown. The entire site is flooded and work cannot resume until water recedes, with plans to hire more men and push progress once possible.

Deputy Assessor Getwing to Work in Payette

T B Long was appointed deputy assessor for the county and began work midweek. His district runs from Washington county south to the Win Minkslee place east to J W Hayes minch and across the river to Berding land. The assessor will now collect military lists from ages eighteen to forty eight and assess personal property with real property. Buildings under construction will be considered this year. Lorraine Chapter No 20 Eastern Star to initiate six members March 15 with Grand Worthy Matron in attendance and refreshments served.

Traders Day Payette Draws Large Crowd and Busy Sale

Payette held a traders day with Swanson auctioning items from a chair to a wagon starting at ten and continuing to noon. A free lunch followed then sale resumed, with no reserve prices boosting bids. The event drew a large, good natured crowd and plans for another biweekly sale were discussed.

Unfortunate Man Seeks Parents in Payette

George M. L. Howe, a 34 year old deaf and mute man, visits Payette hoping to learn the whereabouts of his westward migrating parents. He recounts a London hospital era after a 1903 railway wreck that killed his wife and child and left him severely injured.
