Payette Valley Suffers Washouts Disrupt Rail Service

The Payette Valley Railroad suffered two major washouts Tuesday with over 400 feet of track at Buckingham and a 25 foot washout at Reeves delaying trains. Floodwaters in the Farmers ditch prevent immediate repairs as General Mann kee Dunn keeps crews on site awaiting river decline, hoping to restore traffic soon.

Traders' Day Sale Promises Large Local Auction in Payette

A Payette committee announces a large traders' day sale on Wednesday listing horses, cattle, buggies, wagons and other chattels. The Fitzgerald building and vacant lots opposite the Commercial hotel will host the event starting at 10 am with free lunch at noon. Auctioneer J. M. Swanson donates time to launch the series as a friendly, fair valuation sale for all consignors.

City Council Eyes Modern Bookkeeping System

A. W. Equals and George Rezac visited Welser to study its bookkeeping methods. They found the Welser clerk's system simple yet effective and believe a similar setup can be adopted in Payette at nominal cost. The committee report is due at the next meeting with steps to implement an up to date records system. H. W. Equals visited Welser to see relatives over the weekend.

City Meat Market Changes Hands In Seattle

Tuesday morning this week the City Meat market, formerly run by Wilcox and Shaffer, was taken over by D. W McGipity and partner. The new owners have long retail experience in Seattle and promise the best service to patrons. Mr Shelton arrived from Payette and has praised the valley and city. Delivery is emphasized with quick service promised by Palace Pharmacies.

Rebekah District Meeting Honors Pleasant Affair

The Rebekah District meeting on February 26 drew fifty eight attendees and lively debate. Harmony No. 42 of Payette won the bid for hosting duties, with officers elected for the next year and an evening program featuring music and readings. A prize was awarded to Mrs Looney of Payette. next annual convention planned with invitation extended to all.

Sewer Work Under Way In Payette District One

The first of this week two cars of sewer pipe were received by Lardwon and Co of Butte Montana contractors awarded the work of constructing the sewer in sewer district No 1. Over five hundred feet of sewer is in the ground at the outlet point and work will proceed rapidly. Next Thursday night the council meets and the ordinance covering the district for the west side comes up for final passage. The ordinance will be published and bids called for. This will lead to a complete city sewer system for Payette.

Death of Clara Soule Affected Town Community

Miss Clara Marion Soule died March 1 after an appendicitis operation in her city home. Born July 26 1896 in Rowland South Carolina she was the only child of Mr and Mrs A B Soule. Funeral services were at the Christian church with Masonic and community honors, interment at Riverside cemetery shared by schoolmates and local organizations.

Presbyterian Church Red Letter Day at Boise Convention

The Presbyterian church invites attendance at the eleven o'clock service led by church laymen in preparation for the Laymen's Convention at Boise. Several men will speak on church work and approach to the convention. Music by the choir and no male quartet numbers. Bible Endeavor meetings have been fine. young people are invited to a 6:30 gathering, with evening worship at 7:20 p.m.

Bridge at Payette Reopened After Ice Gorge Damage

The west approach to the Payette county bridge was damaged by ice but repaired promptly on Wednesday morning. Officials report the bridge is now perfectly safe for all travel and no one was harmed.
