Watering Lead Ox Flat by Snake River Irrigation Plan

N R Smith of Portland, president of the Snake River Irrigation Company, visited Payette to discuss plans to water nearly all of Lead Ox flat using a new power generator and river propellers. The firm will install a low-cost plant on the Snake River borrowing a design demonstrated on the Columbia near Pasco and seeks landowner cooperation without requiring gifts or contracts.

Cooperative Cheese Factory Meeting In New Plymouth Planned

The committee on organization for a Cooperative Cheese factory will meet in New Plymouth Thursday to establish permanent structure. Members hail from Payette New Plymouth Emmett and Falke Store to recruit valley farmers and build a larger dairy market with support from the Crighton Fruit Packing Co. and local real estate firms to assemble stock, supplies, and data for construction and sale.

Canning Factory Opens Season With Record Output

Payette canning plant starts its season to handle the largest crop in history. One hundred to 125 workers will be employed as peas come in slowly, with forty cars expected. After peas come dewberries pears and apples, targeting seventy five cars of canned goods this season. The plant will run full force until late November.

Portia Club Entertainment Draws Modest Attendance

The Portia Club at the YMCA room Monday evening June 15 hosted a talk on the Primary Election Law by Hon. B. Shawhan and W. T. Kirk. The club thanks the speakers and musicians Mrs Petersen Mrs Davis Miss Little Noble Miss Ethel Venable and Miss Ensign, with ice cream and cake served afterward.

Nine Year Old Drowns Saving Brother in Payette River

Jay Fitch nine, son of B R Fitch, drowned while trying to rescue his older brother Nell from the Payette river one mile west of the city. Nova Lathrop recovered the body in six feet of water after the accident. The boys and companions were swimming near a spring board when Nell waded from a sand bar and sank. Jay followed to help and was swept into a swift eddy. The father was away in Welser and returned as Jay’s body arrived home. The boy, a Baptist Sunday School member, was well liked and funeral services were held Sunday afternoon with Rev Kyles in charge.

Piano and Voice Culture Teacher Arrives in Payette

Mrs J A Gelis of Boise has joined her husband’s tin shop near the D C Chase realty office in Payette. In this week’s paper she announces services as a piano and voice culture teacher, backed by graduation from Beethoven Conservatory and the Conservatory of Music Missouri. She invites prospective students to call, living on Ada Avenue opposite the German Lutheran church.

Mass Meeting Backs Payette District Fair Plan

A large crowd gathered at the Elta Opera house Wednesday to back a district fair for Payette and city cleanup efforts. The meeting elected a committee to solicit stock and urged swift action to hold a fair this fall with broad citizen support.

Nampa Wins Hard Fight Against Bridge Bonds

Nampa organized campaign against two Payette River bridge bonds sparking a larger turnout than expected. Voters in Caldwell Payette New Plymouth Middleton Jarma and Emmett supported the bonds but Nampa residents with the slogan no more taxes voted decisively against them. Counted ballots suggest both bonds failed by about 20 to 25 votes with New Plymouth disputing its bridge safety.

Married at Welser as Vida Jenks wed Jesse Beckwith

The ceremony took place Wednesday at the Welser parsonage with Rev C W Longan officiating. The groom, a prominent local, resides on a bench and the bride hails from Waterford Indiana. They met two years ago during a visit and will live on the groom’s fruit ranch. the couple arrived in Payette recently and plan to settle in Sunny Idaho with many friends welcoming the union.
