Fragment of Humanity: Little Girl in London Hospital
Irvin S Cobb recounts visiting a severely injured German girl in a London hospital. The girl has lost a hand, a shattered other hand, and a fragile, pale face. She smiles faintly while clinging to a china doll and singing as she endures pain and neglect. The scene contrasts wartime horror with a grim, ironic view of imperial spectacle.
