The committee raising 1000 for a swimming pool reports strong local support with many subscriptions though the plan stalls. City water costs force withdrawal of water supply and delay construction until next year. Checks are being returned but renewals are planned this fall to create a pool above the Big Ditch when water warms.
The Towans are informed that the annual Towan picnic is scheduled for August 22 near Emmett. Mesnett Examiner reports Emmett was chosen as the site after last year’s Weiser event, with committees formed and location to be announced.
Mr. C H Robertson posed a riddle to the Enterprise asking the relation of two black men on the street seen together. One tall man claimed the other boy was his son but denied being his father. The puzzle asks readers under twelve to name the relation for a 60 cent prize.
A novelty advertising stunt by Wood & Spaulding promises a ton of coal free with each Heatrola sold between July 22 and August 11. The Heatrola, a warm air heating system, is showcased in their window and store, described as a mahogany enamel phonograph-like unit amid sales hype.
Workers who finished repairing the Farmers Co-operative Canal ten miles beyond New Plymouth last Friday received a pleasant surprise at the camp. Mr. Wagner, manager of the Co-operative Creamery Co., arrived as repairs ended and shared a ten gallon ice cream freezer with about one hundred farmers from the area. The two week project followed a strenuous job.
Dr William H Guyer of Findlay Ohio opens a four lecture series in the Methodist church with support from the Kiwanja Club and the local Chamber of Commerce. Prominent observers from Pittsburgh and Indianapolis praise his engaging talk The New Day and Our Home Town. Tickets go on sale next week with 35 cent admission for the first lecture.
Mr. J. H. Stoner announces there will be no band concert Saturday afternoon or evening because a circus is scheduled in Payette.
The Payette Steam Laundry adds a modern dry room tumbler to its operation. Proprietors Johnston Brothers claim the upgrade allows gentler handling of delicate garments and better service for patrons.

Emmett and Twin Falls prepare for a state championship ball game with Carl Korup and Kay Guilliams leaving for Twin Falls to root for Emmett. Mrs. H D Oddy visits Payette en route from Cabarton to Portland. J H Connyers and wife return from Independence Missouri after Mrs. Connyers underwent an operation.
Bryan Koch, 23, of Ontario, drowned in the Snake River Sunday afternoon while swimming with his brother in law T R Tayto and two sisters. The body was recovered Monday morning by J W Farson and sent to Twin Falls for burial. He is survived by his mother in Twin Falls, two sisters, and two brothers.

Ted Driscoll returns from the University of Washington to spend summer vacation with Payette friends. He will work the summer at Rezac Pharmacy and continue his year at the university with his sheepskin. Earl Keller also attends the same school for a few weeks of summer study. Both are members of the university quartet and have funded their education with their vocal abilities.
Mr and Mrs L W Spaulding and daughter Velma returned Monday evening from a five day visit to Yellowstone National Park. They toured the principal sights and Mr Spaulding gave a comprehensive description of the park and how to plan a systematic visit. The account conveyed a contagious enthusiasm and a sense of fever about the trip.
The annual stockholders meeting of Payette Valley Rex Spray Company Ltd will be held at the office 28 South Eyhth Street Payette Idaho at 7 oclock p m on August 15 1923. The meeting will receive the annual report and elect a Board of seven directors. Frank E Seeley secretary.
