Eleven Lowndes county men, mostly farmers, were chosen to try Austin Westberry for a second time in the Browning murder case when court recessed after noon. The remaining juror was expected to be chosen shortly after noon. A total of about 180 salesmen were examined.
In Valdosta the second trial for Austin Westberry on a double murder charge at the Browning filling station stalled as about 300 veniremen were questioned. Judge Thames overruled a defense demurrer. Westberry, previously convicted of Browning’s murder, faces a new indictment for killing both Mr and Mrs Browning. The case involves robbery allegations and prior trials, with several co-defendants mentioned and awaiting trial or on bond.
Louis H. Rector a former Pittsburgh businessman was killed when his car collided with a machine driven by Miss Lucille Bachman of Three Rivers Michigan near Cartersville Georgia. Several others were injured with at least one in critical condition and hospitalized.
Valdosta will host the Confederate Veterans of Georgia annual reunion in late October. Mrs. R. E. Dasher president of the Valdosta chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy notes no definite date yet but the event will occur in the latter part of October. Plans remain unchanged, refuting rumors the gathering had been canceled.
The Atlanta city council votes unanimously to source city purchases only from Blue Eagle establishments. Fulton County Commission chairman Geo. F. Longino says he will introduce a resolution at the September meeting to direct the county purchasing agent to buy solely from NRA firms.
Flagstaff Ariz Trans continental bus drivers now claim they are jacks of all trades. Frank B Gowie a driver says his latest duty was to act as a witness at the marriage of John F Trude of Los Angeles and Jeanne A Seilacher of St Paul Minn. Both bride and groom were passengers on the bus Gowie was driving.
Mrs. Robert Lee Dixon died in a local hospital today, the third victim to succumb to injuries from a Saturday automobile crash near Tifton. Two of her daughters were killed, and her husband and son Homer were injured.
Two Monticello men Otis Briggs aged 30 and William Hanken aged 25 were killed when their small monoplane crashed near Clarence during an apparent forced landing on Monday.
Ruth Litzig of Essen Germany died after being dragged from the river Sunday following an eighty hour continuous swim.
Supt Hope P Davis of the Tavo Public Schools will be in his office Tuesday afternoon at 7 to issue lists of books for each grade and to provide information on opening preparations. The term starts Monday September 4 and few book changes are planned due to economic conditions. The local board will meet soon to settle tuition and entrance fees, with an announcement next week.

Marilyn Chaney was born Saturday morning and her twin Marion Chaney followed Monday morning, 48 hours and 51 minutes apart, to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chaney in Mount Pleasant Iowa.
Atlanta. Commissioner Adams began a wide tour of Georgia cotton areas to inspect the crop and probe reports of deterioration from drought and boll weevil damage. His office has received many letters telegrams and calls in recent weeks about the poor condition of cotton through the southern state.
Federal veterinarians warn of a fast spreading screw-worm fly in South Georgia that lays eggs in open wounds. Farmers should inspect cattle and range stock, treat wounds with chloroform solution, clean and cover with repellents, and burn removed maggots to prevent spread. A government vet will survey the situation in Quitman.
Milledgeville Georgia. J M Williams former Rochelle minister begins life sentence at state prison farm on murder charge of his son Raiford a Navy seaman. Prosecution says he killed to collect insurance. Williams maintains innocence.
The Sparta Ishmaelite weekly newspaper in Sparta Georgia is identified as the oldest business in the city, operating under the same name for about fifty six years. It has been chosen as a charter member of the Georgia Newspaper Alliance, a cooperative group starting operation this week.
