Memorial Day Program Honors Veterans At Patoka Cemetery

Greatest of tributes for fallen and living veterans with a 2 pm program at the Patoka Legion post. Ex Service men march from the American Legion Hall at 1 30 pm and a tribute including readings, music and a three volley salute follows. List of buried soldiers at Patoka cemetery provided.

Science Club Family Banquet Recalls Annual Evening

The Household Science club held its annual family banquet on Saturday May 17 in the gymnasium with ninety seven attendees. Mrs F M Smith read The Club Woman's Prayer as the new president Mrs O A Nattie r was presented a flowers basket. The retiring president Mrs D W Troyer accepted a Federation pin and spoke briefly. The program featured an orchestra, vocal numbers, a laylet and a hand performance by Mr Merritt Caldwell.

Eighth Grade Commencement Held at H S Gym

The Eighth Grade Commencement Exercises at the high school auditorium drew a large crowd. Rev Spurgeon spoke on Life and Dr Murfin presented diplomas after a short address, with all school board members in attendance.

Fifty ninth annual commencement at University of Illinois

The fifty ninth annual commencement at the University of Illinois will be held Wednesday morning June 11, ending a three day period of alumni and senior activities. Dr David Kinley retiring president will deliver the address before approximately 2000 Illini seniors receive degrees amid baccalaureate services and reunions for classes from 1885 to 1925.

The Patoka High School Alumni Association schedules its annual banquet for May 31 with a chicken dinner. Marion County Eighth Grade Exam Results Reported

Three hundred rural eighth graders participated across Marion County centers. Of 300 papers, 167 passed, 73 failed, and 60 may improve in one or two subjects on May 81. Well Known Attorney Chas Holt Buried in Vernon

The funeral of Chas Holt prominent Salem attorney and Democratic figure was held at the Methodist Church in Salem at 2:00 PM Sunday. Burial followed in Vernon cemetery. Holt grew up east of Vernon, practiced law in Salem, served as States Attorney and County Judge.
