Attendees at the Methodist Sunday School numbered 71 for May 15. A birthday song honored Caroline and Sandy Ehrat, Mr and Mrs Dow Jones, John Revis and Jesse Walton. Numerous local visits and gatherings followed across Marion and surrounding towns.
Mr and Mrs Roy Ballance received graduation notices for two grandsons. Ronald Seats, son of Alden and Mrs Seats, will graduate May 30 at Trinidad High School in Trinidad Colorado. Edwin Leo Ballance, son of Leo Ballance, will graduate June 2 at Medford Senior High School in Medford Oregon. Both are grandchildren of Mr and Mrs Jesse Belcher of Patoka.
Mr and Mrs Dee Sides announce the birth of a baby boy on Wednesday May 18 at St Marys hospital Centralia weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Delmar Cain and Mr and Mrs William Sides Telini.
Members and friends gathered Sunday May 15 at Vernon Park to honor Nan Perkins on her 87th birthday with a noon dinner and social visit. Attendees included George Rouse Jake Driden Fred Thorpe Harry Thorpe Jeff Blackwell Florence Gettel Levi Perkins and many others from Vernon Vandalia Peoria and surrounding towns. Visitors in the afternoon were W F Murfin T E Snyder E G Ford and others.
Band Parents of Unit 100 Schools will hold a regular session Tuesday evening May 24 at 7 30 at the High School. All Band Parents are urged to attend.
The Vernon Good Will Club met with LaHoma Hilliard on Wednesday May 4 with fifteen members and two visitors Mrs Mic Manus and Carl Hilliard. Afternoon work focused on cutting rags for rugs for LaHoma. The group reported sending 19 get well cards in April and Olga Kleeman donated a wheelchair to accompany a hospital bed. Prizes in games went to Dora Eversman Anna Lange Emma Protz and Fern Arnold. The club adjourned to meet with Ann DesRuisseaux.
The B T U social at Eugene Simpson home Friday night. Several local families. numerous calls and Sunday visits with extended kin. Illness noted as Mrs. Lansford in Vandalia hospital. Neighborly visits include Perkins, Jett, Hyde, Kiles, Wadkins, Carter, Elwell, Anderson, Williams, and Meredith households.
The May 22 1955 baccalaureate program at Patoka Community Unit School opens with a processional led by Mrs Rosalie Clark. Rev Sterling Kerr delivers invocation and Rev Samuel Spurgeon offers benediction. The service features student performances by the Girls Chorus and a reading by Rev Richard Stowe with the address What Shall I Give Thee Master My Prayer For Today.
The America High School commencement honors the senior class with speeches by Gene Bricker Sandra Schroeder and others. The program includes the band performance of Pomp and Circumstance invocation salutatory and valedictory pieces, diploma presentations, and a recessional.
Sunday School attendance totaled sixty five on Mother’s Day at Mound Chapel Church. Members and guests enjoyed solos poems and tributes led by Mrs. Paul Torrence Mrs. Alfred Jett and Rev Ralph E Willis. The interior received a complete repaint enhancing the service setting. C H Arnold of Bozeman Montana visited relatives while Patoka attendees joined the Kaskaskia Associational Girl’s Auxiliary House party in Salem.
The Sunbeams pre school group gathered at the Baptist Church on May 7 with Patty Sharp as president welcoming Judy Carter Thelma Gillett Dick Nelson Ruth Dwight Thomas Kathryn Don Nattier and Sharon Kaye Crawford recording secretary calling the roll and sharing Bible verses about Mother A Mother’s Day playlet was performed. The president and secretary reported visits to Miss Bettie’s room at school last week and vacation Bible School plans were set for May 80. Children enjoyed nut cups multicolored mints a gift from Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Emil Nattier with Mrs Halden Nelson served kolache and decorated cupcakes. Favors were all day suckers.

Willing Workers plan a class meeting and sale events as the American Legion Auxiliary unit receives Memorial Poppies made by Marion disabled veterans. The poppies honor war dead and will be worn on Poppy Day, May 28, with sales to follow.
The family expresses sincere gratitude for assistance and kindness during Albert Weinsmans illness and death. Special thanks are given to the American Legion singers Brother Tom McGee and all who sent flowers. Brothers and Sisters join in appreciation.
Mr and Mrs Walter Humes and sons and Mr and Mrs Eldon Wickersham express heartfelt gratitude to surrounding communities for donations toward rebuilding. They acknowledge Patoka Fire Department's effort, noting the fire progressed too quickly to save the home and wishing blessings on all supporters.
