Obituary: Harry Moran of Patoka Mourned

Harry Moran born June 25 1856 in Davenport Iowa died May 10 1989 at 830 am in Patoka. He worked for Illinois Central and Michigan Central Railroads and served in the Spanish American War. He leaves sisters Clara Moran Georgiana Banfield and their families plus two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were held at his late home with military honors by the local Legion. Interment in Pratt Cemetery.

Silver Tea Society Meeting At Home In May

Misses Florence and Rubye Cain host the Silver Tea Society at their home on May 11. Guest Mary Bryan Vandalia attended. Mrs. Leo Ballance led the finesses and devotions with Miss Florence in charge of entertainment featuring games and contests. Prizes went to Mrs. Bert Bushnell Bettie Inncox and Mary Helen Jennings. A white elephant exchange was included and refreshments served. The society adjourned to meet in June with Mrs Mac Eagan.

Alphonso Altadonna of Sandoval, proprietor of a Route 51 tavern, was shot three times during a Sunday morning armed robbery after a carful of two men demanded money. He fought back with a soda bottle, was hospitalized in Cen tralia, and authorities sought the assailants.

Oil Land Fraud Case Involves Illinois Properties

Nyack New York May 14 Developments in oil well properties in Jefferson and Hamilton Counties Illinois figure in a civil action filed by S O Miller former president of Rockland County Trust Co against Archie H Carpenter of Lexington Kentucky. The suit seeks recovery of money allegedly fraudulently obtained as Carpenter sold work interests in the Dahlgren properties and promised productive drilling then proposed substitutions in an Indian lease. Carpenter was arrested April 1 on grand larceny charges but did not appear for a scheduled hearing. The Illinois Central No 1 rail well in Patoka field was a development credited to Carpenter.
