Oil Struck in Patoka Field as Wells Prolific

Drilling activity expands around Patoka Illinois with rigs from Oklahoma Texas and Kentucky moving to new sites. The Adams Oil & Gas Co leads with nine wells drilled and a tenth planned while several independents test multiple sands in the Davidson Pugh Smith area.

Mrs Allison Gray Hosts Ladies Fancy Work Club Meeting

The June gathering of the Ladies Fancy Work Club met Friday afternoon with Mrs. Allison Gray as hostess. A business session led by Mrs. C. M. Rogier preceded a program arranged by Mrs. D. W. Troyer and Mrs. S. M. Spurgeon featuring a paper by Mrs. Elvin De Lay on home training for character development, a fruit-name contest won by Mrs. L. D. Altom, a flag drawing won by Mrs. J. R. Wasem, and a memory test using state abbreviations. Refreshments were served with assistance from Mrs. J. R. Wasem. The July meeting will be at Mrs. Charles Hill’s home with Mrs. J. R. and G. J. Wasem on the entertainment committee. Attendees included Mesdames W. W. Murfin, Austin Good, H. N. Potts, L. D. Altom, D. W. Troyer, Elston Green, G. J. Wasem, Roy Jones, C. M. Rogier, J. R. Wasem, Elvin DeLay, Charles Hill, S. M. Spurgeon, Ingvald Settem and P. B. Simcox.

Patoka Students Graduate From Salem High School

The Salem High School commencement was held Wednesday evening at the Salem Methodist Church, honoring a class of seventy seven. Five Patoka students completed their senior year there due to Patoka’s three year high school course. Graduates were Lola Morey Iris Ellis James Adams Walace Alexander and Dick Potts. Nearby attendees included Mr and Mrs Frank Adams Mr and Mrs J W Alexander Mr and Mrs H Potts Mr and Mrs H G Hudspeth Mrs Nellie Mansfield Mrs A Ellis and R Williamson.

University to Award 2100 Degrees in Illinois Commencement

Floyd M. Smith listed as candidate for B S Agriculture as about 2100 degrees are conferred across Urbana Champaign and Chicago campuses. Urbana Champaign ceremonies set June 14 for 1800 degrees with Yale professor William Lyons Phelps delivering the baccalaureate address. Chicago exercises for Medicine Dentistry and Pharmacy run June 11 in the Civic Opera Building with T. W. Smith as speaker. WILL radio will broadcast from 3 45 Sunday and 9 a m Monday.

Township Road Finishes East of Town Last Week

The road east from the Alcom store corner to the township line was completed last week. Eighteen car loads of gravel were added to its surface as part of the original Patoka Township Rond Issue project. Bond funds fell short for about 0.84 mile, with rock bought from State Gas Tax funds. WRA workers unloaded and spread the gravel and spent time on the grade.

The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston opened its annual meeting on June 7. Reports highlighted 59 new branches, 66 percent sales growth for Mary Baker Eddy writings, and increasing public support for Christian Science in medicine and religious freedom.
