Young Democratic Convention to convene in Decatur June 11-12

Marion County sends eleven delegates and an equal number of alternates to the Illinois Young Democrats convention in Decatur on June 11 and 12. State president Charles E Bliss will preside until a permanent chair is elected. Sam M Keys of Lincoln is a leading candidate for the biennial presidency. Twenty-third District leaders anticipate a larger gathering than the 1935 Springfield event.

D D Club Entertained Saturday Night

Mr and Mrs Carol Mojonnier hosted the D D Club at their west town home on Saturday night May 29. The evening featured games and contests with prizes to Ralph and Myrna Elliott and Loretta Genre. Refreshments were served and guests departed late to meet again next month.

Rigdon Location in Pope Township Oil Prospect

Mr Lenfield of Columbus Ohio completed a lease block of about 800 acres in Pope Township west of Patoka and moved a rig on the Boles land north of the Carroll place. Mr Gee Rivers of East St. Louis will drill the well and test the pay sand prospects with a spud planned for Thursday.

Patoka Commencement Exercises Brighten School Night

A capacity crowd attended Patoka high school commencement in the gym beautifully decorated in blue and gold. Seventeen graduates entered to a marching tune as the orchestra played. Diplomas were presented by John A. Jennings with Supt. Elvin DeLay noting three new medals for cooperative activity, athletic success, and scholarship. Lucille Smith, Lora Ballance, and Forest Walker received the inaugural medals.

Home Coming at Eaglin on June 6

A community homecoming at Eaglin school house on Sunday June 6 includes a basket dinner. Morning services begin with preaching at 11 a m and Sunday School at 10 a m. An afternoon speaking program follows. Everyone is invited. Joe Mack superintendent Rev M D Ballance pastor.

Obituary of Geo W Gaultney

George W. Gaultney born April 3 1855 in Clinton County Illinois, married Eliza Miller in 1882, had two children Edna and Harry with Harry predeceasing him. He served as Post Master from 1909 to 1913 and was a devout Methodist. Funeral held at M E Church with interment at Patoka cemetery. Edna survives along with many friends and neighbors.

Drilling Planned Soon in Foster Township Area

A deal to lease 900 acres in Foster Township is under consideration to allow drilling if secured. Overturns Car At Intersection Near Stringtown

Mr John T Blankinship overturned his automobile early Sunday while en route to Farmer Cemetery for Decoration Day. Northbound on the highway near Stringtown the driver turned west abruptly at a cross road south of Zimmerman corner, overturning the car carrying Mrs Blankinship Mrs MacSimcox and Mrs Belle Willett. Passengers suffered bruises and shock but none seriously injured. Willett taken home by a passing ambulance and Blankinship drove the damaged car to Patoka.

Marion County Youths Tour National Stockyards

Raymond Britt of Patoka won first in sheep judging at the National Stockyards tour for Rural Youth members from 15 counties. The event, hosted by Producers' Livestock Commission, included ring judging across cattle sheep and hog classes with youth from Marion and adjoining counties, plus a Q&A session on livestock production and marketing.
