Centralia Man Killed in Auto Wreck Wednesday

R. H. Jones, a well known Centralia resident, was instantly killed north of town when his Ford V-8 skidded off the pavement, crashed into a tree after a bridge tire blowout. A companion suffered severe bruises but recovered after emergency care.

Local Boy to Get Degree At S I N U Friday

Lowell Francis Belcher of Patoka will graduate from Southern Illinois State Normal University with a Bachelor of Education degree Friday morning June 2 in the 64th annual commencement. A total of 218 students will receive degrees, the largest class in the school’s history. Commencement starts at 9 30 in the college auditorium with President Roscoe Pulliam delivering the address on Education in the Long Perspective.

The invention aims to reduce noise and wear by absorbing the impact when a vehicle axle crosses the crossing, with patents filed and trials in Arkansas and Illinois pending installation.

Rural School Graduations in Marion County Schedule

Graduation exercises for Marion County rural schools will be held at Patoka Gymnasium on June 5, Salem High School Gymnasium on June 6, Kinmundy High School Gymnasium on June 7, Donoho Prairie Church Romine Township on June 8, and Centralia Township High School Auditorium on June 9. Pupils may graduate at the location most convenient for them.

Judicial candidates to meet in Centralia Friday night

Judicial candidates for the Fourth Judicial Circuit will hold a meeting in Centralia on Friday evening May 2 to close their speaking campaign. They toured Clinton county and spoke in Pana and Salem, with large crowds at each event. Election day is Monday June 5 and voters are urged to vote for three judges with proper ballot markings explained by election officials.

Commencement for the Sandoval Community High School class of 1939 was held Tuesday night, May 30. Local students from here who completed four years of high school at Sandoval and graduated with the class include Martha Scott, Helen Wal lr, Evelyn Ellis, Betty Alcom, Nellie Mae Jones, Vanda f Eaglin, Bert Hicks, John Carter, Ancil Arnold, Lyle Arnold, Darrel Chriss and Forrest Walker. A large number of local residents attended with parents of the graduates.
