Jolliff Hardware Plans Second Auction Sale
A Vernon hardware store built to wind down its business holds another auction after a crowd observed the first sale. Auctioneers Eugene Leninger and Walter Kleeman led the sale with Wm Hathaway as clerk as Harold and Mrs. Jolliff exit the business. The second sale is set for Tuesday night June 13 at 7 30 p m to clear remaining merchandise.

Mrs Ingvald Settem hosted the Fancy Work Club meeting on Friday afternoon. President J R Wasem opened, minutes read, and it was decided July and August meetings would be optional. Entertaining committee A T Gray and L E Green led contests won by Gray Potts and Wasem. Guests included Mrs James Doherty of Denver and Mrs John Gehrkins of Vernor. Tiny Shirley Anne Jones Remembered in Kinmundy Funeral
A brief obituary notes the death of Shirley Anne Jones born May 22 1938 who died June 2 after a few days with her parents Mr and Mrs Merle Jones. Survived by her parents a brother Floyd a sister Betty and grandparents C W Lowe with many relatives. Funeral services were held by Rev Lender of Vernon from the family home at 1 30 pm Saturday with interment in Evergreen Cemetery Kinmundy.

Little Brown Jug Sets Age Record For Pension Proof
Henry Griffin used a small dated jug as proof of his birth date after family records were lost in a fire. The jug stamped with his birth date accompanied him to Salem for a photograph to finalize his pension papers.

Construction Rush At Magnolia Gathering Plant
The Magnolia Oil Co rushes construction at its gathering plant and pumping station north of town. Over 30 carloads of pipe have arrived and been unloaded with line laid from the Lake Centralia Salem oil field to the plant. A tank of 80 000 barrels is nearly complete and foundation work for the pumping station advances. Two shifts of more than 100 workers are on site.

Malan Drilling Progress at 1100 Feet Near Town
Conrey and Griffin were drilling their No 1 Malan well at 1100 feet Wednesday afternoon three miles west of town. They expect the Be noist sand depth reached before printing next week. A productive test would boost oil activity in the local field after a period of low interest.

Charles F Grupp 75 died May 30 at his Decatur home. Funeral at Moran Funeral Home Decatur Friday at 1 PM, then burial at Patoka after short graveside rites. Born in Jersey City New Jersey he moved to the Patoka area in youth and left a widow, a daughter Mrs Ray Beckett of Macon and sons Woodford Grupp Decatur and Wesley Grupp. Also other relatives and friends. Rural Schools Hold Eighth Grade Graduation in Gym
Eighth grade graduates from rural schools were honored Monday night June 5 at the high school gym with twenty students present. Mrs. Gladys Wernsman chaired the program as Prof. B E Gumm of Salem High delivered the commencement address. Rev Thomas gave the invocation and benediction. County Supt. Paul B Chance presented diplomas after a short talk following musical numbers.

A group of girls met at Eaglin Schoolhouse on June 1 to form the Eaglin Workers 4 H Club. Max Conrey Returns to Drill Near Old School Now Oilman
Max Conrey, formerly a Patoka area teacher, now 50, is drilling a new oil well about 40 acres from the old Mound Chapel schoolhouse where he taught 31 years ago. He helped extend the Patoka pool and led successful tests near Fairview Park and Centralia, with notable work at Hester and Barth wells and the Lake Centrali a field. Residents of Pope Township watch for another producer from the ex-teacher, who many recall teaching them their three R's.
