Archivists Find Civil War Era Collection in Springfield
Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier announced discovery of over 10 000 historically valuable items. The collection includes pictures books scrapbooks diaries and letters mostly Civil War era and features material on General John A Logan the famed Civil War general US senator and creator of Memorial Day.

Martin Beyers Named to Head Legion Post Here
At the Patoka American Legion post meeting on May 24, officers were elected including Commander Martin Beyers Senior Vice Commander Dale Jones Treasurer Stanley Barnes Service Officer Frank Miller Sergeant at Arms Lisle Jolliff. Delegates to the 23rd district convention in Centralia on May 27 were Max Quayle and Dale Jones with alternates Stanley Barnes and Wim Jenkins. Elizabeth Christie Linton born Vernon Illinois January 17 1873 died May 25 1956 Decatur where she had lived ten years wife of John Calvin Linton died 1947 survived by six children two daughters four sons and extended family. Funeral Tuesday at Vernon Methodist Church with interment in Vernon Cemetery.

The Rev. Robert Hollis was appointed pastor of the Patoka Methodist Church at the Southern Illinois conference held last weekend.
