Zion Church Hosts Home Coming and All Day Service
Zion Church organizes a July 16 Home Coming with Sunday School at 10 am and preaching at 11 am. A noon basket dinner on the lawn precedes an afternoon sermon by Rev. C F Corzine of Centralia. Singers join from Centralia and beyond. Children’s program follows at 7:45 pm with multiple acts and songs by the Sunday School corps.

They started July 1 traveled through Indiana Kentucky Virginia Washington New York New Jersey Connecticut Massachusetts Rhode Island Vermont New Hampshire Maine and Ontario with 2912 miles driven 165 gallons used and 90 dollars total per crew.

The Eaglin Workers gathered June 6 at Miss Wilma Thalman’s home in honor of her birthday. Miss Wilma Talman led the meeting in the absence of officers. Members conducted roll call and minutes, enjoyed music, worked on dresses, with Miss Hazel Belcher in charge of recreation and refreshments served by Mrs. Thalman.

Aerial Photos to Aid 1939 Farm Program in Marion County
Aerial enlargements are used this year to check performance under the 1939 AAA farm program. Photos were shot in 1988 by commercial flyers from 14,000 feet, with a special camera through the plane floor. Each image covers about six square miles with overlaps leaving about three square miles uncaptured, and fields are measured by a planimeter.

Missing Vernon Girl Found After Five Day Air Search
Goldie Gehrken, 17, of Vernon Illinois, was located Friday near Wyatt Missouri after a five day search. The mystery centers on aviator Larry Thompson alias Ernest Pelch who piloted the small two seater taking passengers for 50 cents. Authorities traced the plane and interviewed the girl who said they had planned to marry but she would not. The case involves possible stolen aircraft and cross state flight activity ending with the girl's recovery and Thompson’s further legal action.
