Illinois unveils updated official highway map and record mileage

The Illinois Highway Department released an up to date official highway map noting 8,464.57 miles open to traffic as of January 1, 1930, with 1,588.63 state aid and 6,875.49 bond issue miles. It lists state aid and bond issue under contract figures and states Illinois built 742.91 miles of bond and aid roads last year. Director Harry H. Cleaveland and Chief Highway Engineer Frank T. Sheets prepared new policies for county allotments to be presented at the Champaign Urbana short course, followed by Gov. Louis L. Emmerson addressing road builders.

Household Science Club Meets for Open Guest Day

The Household Science club gathered at the gymnasium on Saturday afternoon despite bad weather. Dr. Corlew spoke on dental hygiene stressing care for the six year molar and its impact on later teeth, followed by Miss Andrus on health programs. The program included patriotic songs and a pantomime, with plans announced for future drama work.

Queer Accident Near Shobonier on Hard Road

A Tuesday morning crash occurred about a mile south of Shobonier during a funeral service. Two foreign cars from Michigan and Ohio collided after parking on a northbound slab due to heavy rain and lack of authority assistance. both cars were damaged but occupants were unharmed. The owners plan to seek damages.

Two Marion County Men To State Farm

Two Marion County men joined the State Farm at Vandalia. Roy Jones accompanied Edwin Arnold and was assigned as guard with his cage set in the northwest sector for the first night. Herman Rizzon of Sandoval also joined the force the same day.

Real Sunday outing trip ends with long return

Roy Edwards and Bob Caldwell started Sunday morning a southeast course. After dinner in DuQuoin they continued to Cairo, crossed into Missouri, then looped via Sikeston and Cape Girardeau to St. Louis. They returned home after nearly 475 miles with no mishaps.

Well Known Man Dies in Pittsburg

A local resident, Fort Arfold son of Mrs. Fy M. Siejth, died after illness in Pittsburg. The body was brought to Patoka today and funeral services are set for Friday afternoon at the M. E. Church.

Parks Home Robbed After Shelter Guest Vanishes

During a rainstorm a youth sought shelter at Walter Parks home. He helped around the house and stayed in the basement overnight. The family returned from a game to find the home ransacked, their guest missing, and several small articles including jewelry absent. The lad remains at large.
