Second Annual High School Banquet Set for March 15

Patoka high school announces the Second Annual Basket Ball Banquet will be held Saturday night March 15 in the Patoka gym. All local folks are welcome by reservation only due March 13. Tickets include a meat loaf meal and dessert with coffee and the event aims to honor the local cagers and Patoka’s basketball prominence. Reservations should be made at the First State Bank.

Round Top School Surprises Teacher

Last week the Round Top school children hosted a surprise for their teacher. The girls cleaned the upstairs room during noon hours and the boys built a table. On Wednesday Mrs. Nattier was invited to the upstairs room to find a cheerful group gathered around a table laden with treats.

Popularity of the Bible Topic at Local Church Meeting

The B Y P U gathered on Sunday March 9 with scripture on Favorite verses and a prayer. A duet and introductions led by Group Captain opened the session. Speakers including Artie Rogier Bessie Hill Vernie Nattier Alice Mojonnier Jake Davis Carl Rogier and Mrs. Allie Gray presented evidence of Bible popularity alongside a poem by Leroy Parker. Benediction by Bro Alvin Belcher closed the event.

Old Capital at Vandalia Suffers Blaze

Fire damaged the Old Capital Building at Vandalia with damage estimated between 12 000 and 15 000. The blaze confined to the dome and cupola while interior water and wreckage affected the interior. Punk Wheeler Harry Lohr was treated for smoke and fire injuries at Greer Hospital. Built in 1886 the building stood as Fayette County Court House and may become a historical monument to Lincoln.

Bonnie Hill led the assembly with performances by Ellen Mulvaney, Lillie Sharp, Ed ith Gray, Mae Warner, and Nina Doolen. Mr Rogier described a three day trip to Washington with a church guide, visits to the Soldier's Cemetery, Washington Monument, Capitol, and Niagara Falls, ending with praise for the trip's value.
