First Oil Well To Begin In City Limits In Ten Days

Oil boom nears Patoka as operations start in about ten days on a fourteen acre tract west of town. W. B. Patoka Parent-Teacher Association Meeting Recap

The Patoka PTA met in the High School Assembly room led by president J C Beery. Reports and minutes were read and committees appointed including Magazine Hospitality Study Group and Budget Finance. County Supt Paul Chance spoke on organizing parent teacher associations while the chorus performed two numbers. Our membership is growing and we invite continued support.

The M E Church invites members and families to a fellowship pot luck on February 17 with a program celebrating fellowship movement. A radio will broadcast Dr. E Stanley Jones missionary to India as he delivers a farewell message to America to the United Fellowship of Methodists. Eaglin Church Sunday School Seeks Community Support

Sunday School at Eaglin Church met at 10:00 a m with 29 attendees for worship. The collection totaled 2.59 dollars and 3.00 dollars was donated to flood sufferers by the Sunday School under Superintendent Bro Joe Mack.

Obituary: Charles R Boothman of Patoka Dies at 57

Charles R Boothman died February 4 1937 at age 57 years 7 months 14 days he lived southwest of Patoka. He was born June 20 1879 in Lexington Missouri and moved with his family to Chicago as a boy. He married Susan Schmidt in September 1905 in East St Louis and worked as a brick mason before moving near Patoka five years ago. Survived by widow ten children seven sons and one daughter two sisters and a nephew plus many relatives and friends. Funeral services were held February 7 at Southern Methodist Church Patoka with ministers J M Smith and F M McKinney. interment in Patoka cemetery.

Death of Dr. J. L. Mansfield in Mulberry Grove

Dr. J. L. Mansfield of Mulberry Grove died Saturday in a Litchfield hospital after several days of pneumonia. A Washington University dentistry graduate, he practiced in Mulberry Grove for six years. Funeral services were in Mulberry Grove Christian Church, burial at Montrose Cemetery, Greenville. He is survived by his wife Nellie Marge Mansfield.

Charlie Lowe, 86, died Wednesday at his son's home. A resident of Arnold Chapel, he was laid to rest Thursday morning at the Arnold Chapel Church.

Tony Hampton to Spot Rig Here in Carlyle Area

Tony Hampton, a noted driller from Carlyle, arranged with J. W. Alexander, leaseholder on Allison land, to spot a standard rig and begin operations immediately. He previously drilled at Vernon on L. E. Green property and now plans with Walter Adams and Oliver Wadkins for a city limits site on the south side, with two rigs available if needed.

Local ambulance brings Mrs Adams home for convalescence

The Cox and Martin ambulance drove to Decatur Sunday to return Mrs C A Adams who had been a patient at Decatur Macon County hospital for several weeks. Mrs Adams is convalescing nicely. Rachel Adams, her daughter, is quarantined with scarlet fever at the Adams home.
