Vernon Good Will Club Meets. Dairy Group Holds Meeting

The Vernon Good Will Club gathered February 2 with eleven members to quilt and share a noon dinner. They sent 26 get well cards in January and awarded prizes to five members. The Annual Sanitary Milk Producers District 7 met at Vandalia’s Evans Hotel with seventy attendees. officers for 1955 were elected and a Vandalia Park July 10 picnic was set with basket dinner.

Change of Meeting Place for Social Security Office Visit

A Social Security Administration district representative will meet the public at Centralia City Hall from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on February 8 and 15, instead of the Employment Office. Future visits will be at City Hall. The representative will assist local residents with Social Security matters.

Mound Chapel News Sunday Services and Birthdays

Attendance at Sunday School remained good despite muddy roads. Birthday wishes were given to Miss Nancy Herrin and Ray Nattier. During Devotional Service, singing was led by Mrs. R. E. Willis with piano by Mrs. Lloyd Kinney. a duet by Mrs. Albert Towler and Mr. Lloyd Kinney followed. Rev. R. E. Willis delivered a sermon from John 14. Next week Teen-Age Sunday School Class will conduct the Devotional Service under Mr Chester Bryant.

Manning Announces Upcoming Marriage of Ella Rita Manning

Mr and Mrs Seter Manning of east of Patoka announce the coming marriage of their daughter Ella Rita to Merl Wadkins son of Mr and Mrs Leo Wadkins of Patoka. The couple will wed Monday February 21 at the St Lawrence rectory in Sandoval Ella Rita is a Patoka High School senior class of 1955 Merl plans to report for military training soon.

Patoka Home Bureau Plans February Meeting

The Patoka Home Bureau Unit holds its regular monthly meeting on Friday February 18 at the Methodist Church basement. Hostesses are Mrs Marcus Cox and Mrs Richard Stowe. Marion County Health Improvement Association held an organizational meeting at Farm Bureau hall on Friday February 11 with attendance listed. Richard Seidel elected county president Tom Shearer vice president Burl Bowen secretary and Mrs John Telford treasurer. Membership drive planned starting March 7 for two weeks with Blue Cross Blue Shield effective June 17 1955. Ferguson Dealer Announces Arrival of New Ferguson 35 Tractor

Woman's Society meets at Methodists Church for February event

The Woman's Society of Christian Service gathered Thursday at the Methodist Church for its February meeting. Three poems were read by Mesdames J. W. Alexander Charles Jordan and Oscar Hill. Mrs. Richard Stowe and Mrs. Mary Galaway led devotions and the lesson. Mrs. Stowe quoted Psalm 121 and Mrs. Galaway spoke on driving power and missionary qualifications. A social hour followed with Valentines and cherry trees decorations. Hostesses included Mesdames J. A. Jennings C. D. Martin Seth Martin and Bessie Murfin.

At the Potts residence west of Vernon on February 4 the Ladies Fancy Work Club gathered with all members present except Mrs. Florence Simcox. President Ann Busch led brief business while Rebecca Matchett and Gladys Jones directed the entertainment. Elsie Gray won both Word Building and Pin On Your Heart. Ann Basch won a Valentine prize. Eva provided refreshments as Eunice Walraven assisted.

Argentia Newfoundland reports R O Williams from Iuka Mississippi serving with Patrol Squadron 5. The unit carried out anti submarine patrols over about 120000 square miles and surveyed ice fields across Baffin Bay during a five month cruise. VP-5 earned a Well Done from Rear Admiral D S Cornwell for reconnaissance and tracking in a major Atlantic Fleet exercise last year.

Farm and Home Week highlights in Illinois 1955

Farm and Home Week 1955 at the University of Illinois showcased sessions on all agricultural topics from livestock and dairying to soils and irrigation and included homemaking and rural youth programs.
