Vernon W.S.C.S. Meets With Ruth Lawson

The Vernon Woman's Society of Christian Service gathered at Ruth Lawson's home with ten members and two visitors. They planned a $5 Polio fund gift and sending Alice Protz a chain of cards to Joliet Illinois. They discussed observance of the all day Day of Prayer on February 25 and lessons on family worship and home Christian life.

Pvt Don Davis son of Jacob Davis of Patoka graduates Friday January 28 from Clerk Typist School at Camp Chaffee Arkansas. He leaves for Camp Kilmer New Jersey and then to overseas duty in Europe.

Wives Guests At Conservation Club Meeting

Conservation Club 100 entertained wives and families at their regular Monday evening meeting at the High School. Mr. Falkenhain projected hunting and fishing films and refreshments were served. An engagement announcement was made for Miss Frances Gillette of Patoka to Pvt. Paul Perkins of Vernon, with no wedding date set.

Valentine Sunbeam Party At Baptist Church

Sunbeams meet on Saturday February 5 at 1 p.m. at the Baptist Church. The lesson focuses on the Jews with an Acrostic JEWS. Children will exchange valentines after the story and play games before refreshments. Rainbow Choir will sing. All children invited.

Mound Chapel Church News Sunday Services

Attendance at Sunday School last Sunday morning was sixty nine. Three persons were admitted to membership in the church in a ritual conducted by Rev. R. E. Willis. Sunday night devotional service led by James Kenneth Walton. Orval Sharp led congregational singing with Howard Kinney at the piano. The Sharps sang a duet and Mrs Sharp played piano. Kinney played a piano solo of gospel tunes. Walton sang a solo Face To Face. Willis preached a stirring sermon from 1 Samuel 17 45.

Vernon Good Will Club Meeting in January

The Vernon Good Will Club met with La Homa Hilliard on Wednesday January 26 with fourteen members and three visitors Maud Meador Carl Hilliard and Cora Mc Manus. They pieced and finished a quilt, enjoyed a noon dinner, and recited the Lord's Prayer. Prizes were won by Mary Kottmeyer Marie Meador Mabel Gillespie and Betty Howell. The group adjourned to meet Mary Kottmeyer February 2.

Floyd Smith of Salem Marion County was named among the new directors of the Illinois Farm Advisors Association at the University of Illinois during Farm and Home Week. Kenneth Swig of Watseka was named president, succeeding J. P. Turner of Vandalia.

Library Notes Highlight Community Reading Hub

The library holds about 3000 volumes across fiction non fiction religious and educational sections with updated encyclopedias. Recent donors include Mrs J F Matchett Estella Ververs Romack and Cleo Walker. Hours are Friday and Saturday 1 to 5 pm and new patrons have recently joined, signaling strong local reading support.
