Rev S M Foulon and P J Montonnier attended a Stewardship Evangelism clinic in Vandalia Tuesday and organized a simultaneous revival set for February 12 to 26 in Patoka. Mrs S M Spurgeon joined the Centralia War Mothers Christmas events and turkey luncheon. Mrs J Humes of Hayworth Ohio visits Polly Outhouse for Christmas. Laura Jackson of Shobonier visited grandson William Gerrish and family Tuesday through Saturday.

White Way lights Christ mas present for Patoka

The first portion of the new white way in Patoka Illinois was lighted on Wednesday. Crews work rapidly and the project should be finished before week’s end.

Pre-School Sunbeams Christmas Party at Baptist Church

The Pre-school Sunbeams met at the local Baptist Church on Saturday afternoon December 17. Connie Walker presided as president. Rebecca Talbott and Kenny Walker were reported ill. Mrs Emil Nattier served refreshments. A birthday card was signed for Linda Carter who turned five. Claude Nattier was welcomed by the children.

Santa Claus Arrives in Patoka Saturday at 2 30

Miss Dorothy Jett Receives Secretarial Diploma

Dorothy Jett earned a secretarial diploma from Sanford-Brown College in St Louis on December 15. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Cecil Jett of Patoka and a 1954 Patoka High School graduate. On January 3 1956 she will join Gaylord Container Company in St Louis as a private secretary. She was an honor student and editor of The Orator.

Patoka Home Bureau Christmas Party at Methodist Church

The Patoka Home Bureau met in the Methodist church basement at noon on Friday for their annual Christmas dinner with 16 members present. Gifts were exchanged as homemade items, with food prepared by members and a lighted tree and glow candles decorating the tables. New officers to be elected in November will take over in January. 1956 Plans for Route 51 Improvement in Marion County

The 1956 state highway department plans call for widening and resurfacing 11 miles of Route 51 from Sandoval to Patoka with additional right-of-way. The project extends to the Kinmundy road just north of Patoka. An expressway crossing Marion County remains under consideration but will not affect Route 51 upgrades.

Married Group Meeting Hears Illustrated Lecture

Bad weather limited attendance to 35 at the December Married group meeting. A potluck supper followed and Miss Ethel Farthing presented an illustrated lecture on her trip to Europe and the Holy Land. The program planning committee met on December 13 to outline a winter and spring series.
