The Ramsey Rams edged the Warriors 67 to 65 Friday night with Rutledge scoring 21, Adams 18, Sanders 12 and Belcher 6 while for the Papooses Perkins 16 Thalman 7 Murfin 5 Lange 6. Grade school Mohawks are 8 3. Pest contest totals include 23 starlings and 304 sparrows. Yearbooks sale continues and Dec 20 assembly plans and Dec 20 1955 lunch menu noted.

Wesley Griffin Seeks Reelection as Circuit Clerk

Wesley Griffin of Patoka announced his bid for re-election as circuit clerk on the Republican ticket. Elected in 1962, Griffin leads the Marion County Young Republicans and serves on the Illinois Circuit Clerk and Recorders Assn executive committee. He is active in the Lions Club volunteer fire department and the Masonic lodge.

Lions Christmas Dinner Planned by Patoka Club

Patoka Lions Club members and wives held their annual Christmas dinner at the Terminal hotel south of Centralia on Wednesday evening. President Les Griffin led songs with Wes Griffin on piano, and Marc Cox served as master of ceremonies after dinner for games and stunts. Everett Jackson and G. W. Isaac were initiated into the club during the past year.

Vernon Post Office to Stay Open Through Christmas

Vernon community notes a long open period for the post office ending after Christmas. The paper lists attendees at Mrs. C. O. White Way Work Starts in Patoka

Illinois Power Co begins installing poles and lighting for Patoka's White Way in the business district. The project adds 18 lights across about three blocks each side of the railroad, with new brackets and larger bulbs. Village bears no cost beyond electricity. completion expected in two to three weeks.

4-H Club Here Holds Its Christmas Meeting

The Patoka Panthers 4-H Club December gathering at the Thomas home included 15 members and five guests. Junior leaders Jimmy Britt Charles Thalman and Rodger Gergeni were appointed. Jesse Lou Thomas demonstrated. The club received 50 Household Guides for sale. January 16 meeting planned at the Bricker home.

Funeral services for John C Leicht former Boulder farmer

Funeral services were held for 75 year old John C Leicht a retired farmer from near Boulder last Friday at Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed church in Carlyle He died at St Marys hospital Centralia after a two year illness He is survived by brother George G Leicht of Boulder and sister Miss Lulu Leicht of Boulder He was uncle of Mrs Elsie Wernsman of Patoka Cox and Martin funeral home of Sandoval directed arrangements

Sunbeams Christmas Party Slated for December 17

The Preschool Sunbeams will host their annual Christmas party at the Baptist church on Saturday afternoon December 17 at 1 PM. The program includes flags, Bible readings, a love verse, a Bible lesson on Luke 2 8 14, an acrostic L O V E, festive foods from Armenian Italian Polish Scandinavian Greek Austrian and German traditions, closing prayer and games. Emil Nattier will run the nibble nook.

Expect Earlier Deadline for Display of Car License Plates

Secretary of State Charles F. Carpentier urged motorists to speed up 1956 license applications. He noted an earlier deadline is planned for plate display after the 1955 March 1 cutoff. He cited lagging over the counter and mail applications in Springfield and Chicago.

Fredonia Community Notes Include Funeral and Visits

A Fredonia sing drew a large crowd Sunday. Maude Jett learned of Elvira Livesay’s death in Vernon Friday. The funeral attendees included George Jett and others. Shoppers visited Centralia, new TV sets were bought by Simpson and Hyde households, and several visits to Mary Perkins, Clarence Albert family, and Emma Jett were noted. The Ladies Aid plans a Christmas exchange with Nannie Gaines.

The Patoka Fire Department asks for donations through Christmas to fund Santa Claus' annual appearance beside Schroeder's garage on Saturday December 24 at 2 30. Firefighters spend time preparing sacks of candy oranges and nuts for children and welcome financial aid to ensure a happy event. Fire Destroys Farm Home Near Patoka

A farm home belonging to Louis Soutier, about five miles east of Patoka, was completely destroyed by a Thursday afternoon fire. The local fire department saved other farm buildings.
